The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Humanitarian aids
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is in the 17th place (previously was on the 31st) among the countries involved in providing humanitarian aids worldwide; as in the last thirty years it had spent over than 83 billion Dollars, which equals 4% of its Annual Gross Domestic Product, for helping more than 87 countries. Therewith all the industrialized countries put together had never achieved the same amount. Moreover it exceeded the average expenditures for humanitarian aid that is established by the UN and amounts 0, 07% of the Gross Domestic Product.
The government of Saudi Arabia not only gives financial and humanitarian aid to Arabic and Muslim countries, but spreads it to who needs it. Saudi Arabia always initiates gathering donation campaigns when necessary, especially for countries affected with elemental disasters or conflicts; Thereby Saudi Arabia occupies this high rank classification among the countries that provide humanitarian aids, additionally it is considered as one of the most important donators in the region and in the world. Providing aids by Saudi Arabia was a strategic decision taken within the frame of the international organizations, therefore Saudi Arabia is counted as a country that has great influence on the world economy, and it is included on the list of the 20th most developed countries worldwide. Moreover Saudi Arabia is counted as the leader country in Arabic and Muslim world; particularly in terms of financing underdeveloped countries on the economical and social levels, however special attention Saudi Arabia surrounds poor and none developed countries. In spite of the economical difficulties that Saudi Arabia had dealt with in the midst of the 80th, it managed to donate approximately 5,5% of the Gross Domestic Product for underdeveloped countries. Saudi Arabia could be called with good conscience as a "Kingdom of Humanity".
Saudi Arabia supports as well the World Food Program that lies under patronage of the UN, and donated over than 50 million Dollars to that program at the beginning of the last year; thereof 10 million USD where destined to support food supplies program in Africa that helped 6 million people in the countries that was affected by drought, and that countries are: Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Tanzania.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia had devoted 10 million USD to support poor countries in West Africa and divided the amount between 8 countries, which are: Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Sierra Leone
Saudi Development Fund is playing essential role in financing enterprises in the underdeveloped countries by granting loans and financing exports for none oil-products.
Since the Fund was established in 1975 till 2005, 400 credit contracts were signed; it was estimated for over than 25000 million Riyal, in purpose to finance over than 390 development projects and economic programs. Almost 68 countries (39 from Africa, 24 from Asia and 5 from different parts of our globe) from around the world took advantage of that offer.
